OUR ETHOS

Our goal is to treat every project, regardless of budget or scale, equally. As a filmmaker, it’s likely that most of your jobs change day-to-day, week-to-week, and month-to-month. But your journey as a creative evolves over seasons and years. As filmmakers ourselves, we understand what it’s like to feel out of your element with lackluster service or cheap gear. We make sure that doesn’t happen here. Every job is meaningful.

OUR STORY

It started back in 2016 with 3. One rising doc shooter at the dawn of streaming. One legendary camera house vet in search of new beginnings. And finally, one aesthetic & analytically-minded woman in fashion, thrust into the world of camera.

We opened up shop in a closet sized office by the beach with a couple of Sony FS7’s and two primary objectives: curb camera house cynicism and encourage fair & transparent client relationships.

7 years later, we are an industry leader in camera support for docs, branded content, and indie features. We have a 5 star reputation and a gear list that’s rapidly expanding. Our network is much larger than our early days but our mentality remains firmly intact: Cameras are common. People are rare.

OUR SHOP

At Rare Breeds our community is at our core. So, it’s focal for us that our space cater to our growing family of filmmakers. This doesn’t just mean ample prep space and hassle-free loading + parking (which we now have)! It means a space to be inspired. It means big bright windows and streaming sunlight throughout the day. It means a chat with another aspiring cinematographer over a pour-over coffee. It means bringing people together in a space that nurtures creativity.

“What makes Rare Breeds unique is that they don’t just offer cameras, they offer their entire community and all the technical and collaborative resources that come with that.”
